Alan has been married to Eleanor for 28 years and they have two adult daughters and four grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, and has traveled extensively to Russia as part of a sister city program that he developed between the City of Milan and the City of Protvino, Russia. Through Alan’s Russian associations and involvement with Russian leaders, he has hosted numerous Russian delegations through the Open World Program of the Library of Congress, including Women as Leaders, Rule of Law, Government Officials, and Children and Youth Service Workers.
